Ted Talks Review

Our actions as much as our words can play a major role in how you're perceived from the outside looking in. I absolutely love the Ted Talks video on The Power of Words. As the video displays, it's truly as simple as it shows. Using our words and choosing them wisely has the power to create change and impact the lives of many. Have you ever sat through a best man's speech and as it ended you thought to yourself wow....that was amazing! It's times like these when we shine in our finer moments by using the power of words enabling ourselves to impact our audience. Another example using the power of words are motivational speeches. Eric Thomas, a widely known motivational speaker who's toured the country speaking with individuals from famous athletes to students, uses his high energy as well as strong words to deliver his message to his audience.  Words are beyond powerful and how we choose to use them depicts how our audience will then view us.

  1. Words are extremely important--they build up or tear down, encourage or depress. Tone means everything when we speak to other people. A harsh tone will turn people off big time, but a gentle, understanding tone will bring them in and make them listen to what you have to say.

  2. This seems like it was a really interesting Ted Talk to watch! I will have to check it out. A lot of times we misunderstand how much words can actually impact someone, so it is important that we remain constructive and positive when talking to others, especially being a speaker!

  3. Your last sentence hit the nail on the head! Words are indeed very powerful. Just as Professor mentioned in class, words can be sharper than a double-edged sword. One should be careful with the words they choose to express something, but at the same time, how careful should we be? Why must we walk on eggshells around specific people for them only to take everything you say offensive?
